Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament is a title given to our Lady by St. Peter Julian Eymard.  It was officially codified as a title at the canonization of St. Peter.   The Blessed Sacrament Fathers were previously granted the approval to celebrate this feast on May 13th.

While this title has gotten some recognition through St. Peter’s order, it has not received the recognition it deserves.  Pope Pius X is reported to have said this is the most important title of our Lady yet.  St. Peter Julian would certainly agree.

If we contemplate the prophetic vision of St. John Bosco of the Church in crisis, this title becomes even more important.  St John Bosco’s concluding statement on his vision: “Very grave trials await the church. What we have suffered so far is almost nothing compared to what is going to happen. The enemies of the church are symbolized by the ships which strive their utmost to sink the flagship. Only two things can save us in such a grave hour: devotion to Mary and frequent communion. Let us do our very best to use these two means and have others use them everywhere.“

The image to the left is a depiction of his vision.  See how the Church is being protected by the two pillars, one topped by the Holy Eucharist and one topped by the Blessed Mother.

For those who have gone through St. Louis De Montfort's Total Consecration to Mary, you may be familiar with the idea that once consecrated we must do everything through, with, in and for Mary.  Fr. Hugh Gillespie of the Montfort Fathers, asks the question "Why is this language so familiar to us?" He answers that it is familiar because it shares comparable form to the Great Doxology in Mass "through Him, with Him, In Him....".  Fr. Hugh then goes on to say that this correlation is no accident.  The real fulfillment of our Total Consecration to Mary is for us to do everything, through, with, in and for Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for the honor and Glory of God the Father (1).  Through consecration to Mary, our lives should become a living doxology of the Holy Eucharist.  This makes the title Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament even more poignant and necessary for True Devotion to Mary and  our Lord in the Holy Eucharist.

For such a time as this, as the Church calls for Eucharistic renewal, and is attacked on all sides, it is time for us to make this title widely known.  It is time for us  to seek Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament’s intercession to renew faith in the Real Presence of Jesus, that we might bring about the Eucharistic reign of Jesus, in our hearts, our homes, our businesses, our apostolates, in the Church and in the world!

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament pray for us that the Eucharist may truly become the Source, the Love, and the Summit of our lives.

O Virgin Mary,

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament,

the glory of Christians,

the joy of the Universal Church

and the hope of the world, pray for us!

Kindle in all the faithful a lively devotion to the most Holy Eucharist,

so that they may all be made worthy to receive Holy Communion every day.

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us!
